Hansi Flick gives a speech. Immediately after breakfast, the national coach greets his World Cup players on Monday morning with an address at the team hotel at Frankfurt Airport.

“There will be no big words,” Flick told the German Press Agency. “That will happen in Qatar,” the 57-year-old announced. In the final match on December 18 in Doha, the World title is to be won for the fifth time. Of course, Flick will already set the direction for the tournament countdown exactly before the departure to the short training camp in Oman. The long leash is now tightened. 

Still on Sunday, Flick had granted free time. Bayern pros Thomas Müller, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané enjoyed themselves before the evening flight to the meeting point at Frankfurt Airport at the NFL game of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Seattle Seahawks in the Munich Allianz Arena. On their evening arrival in Frankfurt, the national players, as before, wrote Flick autographs for the waiting fans. 

Gnabry arrived with a squeaky yellow sweatshirt, Neuer, on the contrary, in a chic sand-colored suit. The fashionable range of the national players was rounded off by England professional Armel Bella-Kotchap, he came in a white jogging suit. Kevin Trapp was wearing a camel hair coat.

At 13.30, after a sponsorship appointment, the Lufthansa Airbus LH 632 takes off in the direction of Muscat. The DFB stars had not recently left for tournaments by scheduled flight. Ecological aspects had been the decisive factor in preventing empty flights, the DFB said.

Figures with different skin colors can be seen arm in arm on the fuselage of the machine. This will carry a “message to the world”, it said on the association’s homepage. World Cup host Qatar is under massive criticism for human rights violations.

After a flight of almost seven hours, the DFB selection will land in Oman shortly before midnight local time on Monday evening. Manuel Neuer and his colleagues are looking forward to a wonderful team hotel with a private beach in the capital Muscat. Pleasant summer temperatures will make it easier to get used to the Arabian Gulf. 

On Wednesday (18.00 HRS / CET / RTL) the last World Cup test is scheduled against Oman. On Thursday we will continue to Qatar. Germany will play Japan in Group E on 23 November. The matches against Spain and Costa Rica follow four days later.

On Thursday, Flick named his 26-player squad. This must be reported to the world governing body FIFA on Monday. Personnel changes in the squad will then only be possible in the event of injuries and with a FIFA certificate up to 24 hours before the first match against Japan.
