Joel Pohjanpalo scored twice in the first half to ensured victory for Finland against Montenegro in their opening match in the UEFA Nations League held at Helsinki Stadium late Tuesday night.
The Finns, who dominated over the Montenegro players in the match, failed to widen the difference and had to satisfied with the 2-0 victory as they missed several goal opportunities.
Montenegro also created opportunities but failed to make any score. Uroš Đuranović´s shot went just over the crossbar at the very beginning of the match at fourth minute while his move foiled by Finnish defenders again at 28th minute.
The hosts started attack on the guests and Teemu Pukki sent a cross into the box at the 20th minute but Robin Lod failed to finish properly.
Pohjanpalo, however, did not mistake after getting ball inside the box from Pukki and took 1-0 lead for Finland at the 31st minute. Pohjanpalo scored again at the 38th minute to ensure the victory for the hosts.
Finland will face Romania in their next Group G match on Saturday.
